Match Report

A tough "friendly", but useful for the league fixtures ahead. Although fixtured as a B team fixture our opposition chose to play half a dozen of their A Team (because they'd missed playing a couple of weeks before!), which clearly left Harpenden challenged from the outset. The match format was 60 minutes split into quarters. Harpenden, as is often the case, started cold and quickly conceded early tries, mainly from quick ball released to the backs. The Amersham left wing was particularly impressive and took advantage of free space as our lads failed to pick up the early pace of the game.

Despite the early tries conceded, in the 2nd quarter, Harps made several impressive tackles. Chris and Angus stood out in particular. Overall this proved the best phase of the match for Harpenden. Fast ball released from the scrum, penetrating runs, and quick re-cycling of ball allowed much of this period to be played in the opposition's 22.

In summary, good preparation for the season ahead highlighting areas for improvement.....but plenty of encouraging signs for forthcoming encounters!!
