If you thought rugby was just a sport for men, then think again. Participation in women's rugby has doubled in the past 10 years, the England women's team won the World Cup last summer and with the enthusiasm generated by Team GB at the rugby 7's in Rio, there's never been a better time for women and girls to give the sport a try.
HARPENDEN LADIES RFC is now in into its third year.
The emphasis for the girls is to provide a fun and enthusiastic environment for them to be introduced to rugby. Through this environment we look to provide the necessary skills and coaching to develop the girls into being the best people they can be both on and off the pitch using the RFU core values.
Rugby's core values are below and we work with particular emphasis on the E!!!!
We currently offer rugby for girls aged 12 upwards and we are keen to establish a senior ladies team to provide continuity for the club. We currently have squads at Under 13 (school years 6-8), Under 15 (school years 9-10) and Under 18 (school years 11-13). Beyond 18 the girls can play senior rugby for our newly formed senior team the Harpenden Bad Habits.
We have found a lot of girls thrive within the rugby ethos and consequently gain in maturity and self-confidence. Equally the camaraderie that the girls develop means that some of these girls will be friends for life as these are the girls who put their bodies on the line for their team and their team mates which creates a special unbreakable bond of friendship.
We are always keen on fixtures with well-matched clubs and teams and have a program of games pre and post Christmas. Entertaining the likes of Grasshoppers, Ampthill, Milton Keynes, Chesham and Bedford.
With girls rugby you are entering into a national community where ALL the clubs are seeking to grow the game. Why not come and be part of the future?
We are also always on the look out for new talent!!!
The companionship on the field is matched by some of the best support groups off the field with the Club Mother Hens ensuring the girls get the treatment they deserve and we have a rather lively Facebook group!

Thinking of joining but not sure see our list of FAQ below.
Do I need to be fit?
Rugby is a sport so eventually a certain level of fitness helps however we welcome all fitness levels and will work with you to improve your fitness.
I have never played before so is it for me?
Yes absolutely. We all start somewhere and all our girls and women started somewhere. We have new players joining all the time and we support their growth as players.
Are your coaches qualified and DBS checked?
All our coaches are suitably qualified and DBS checked.
How much does it cost?
Your initial sessions are absolutely free however when you get addicted (and you will) then we will talk to you about joining us as a member.
What equipment do I need?
All you need is a pair of trainers or boots (whichever is appropriate for the prevailing weather), some clothes that you can comfortably exercise in and we recommend bringing a water bottle. A mouthguard is preferred as there will be elements of contact in rugby however that’s not likely in your first session as we would need to teach you various aspects for health and safety first.
Can I bring a friend?
You can come on your own, in a pair or in a group. Rugby is one of the most social games on the planet off the field of play so the more people involved the greater the fun. Our rugby family welcomes new members with open arms regardless of fitness, ability and body shape.
