Weekly Preview 17/10

Angus McSporran17 Oct 2022 - 08:30

More rugby than you can shake a stick at down at Redbourn Lane this week.

All three senior men's teams are at home this Saturday, our new guests Infantry Rugby have their first home game this Wednesday at 6pm and our clubhouse will be transformed into a Bavarian Bierkeller on Saturday night!

Senior

The 1st XV are back at home against Sidcup on Saturday in a crucial match at the bottom end of the Regional 1 South East table, aside from a 10-6 victory of local rivals Medway, all of their other results have been defeats. However, last time out they were agonisingly close to a win losing 29-30 to Tring at home. So they will very much feel the same way as Harps, that the next win is not too far away. The first of four away visits to Kent this season yielded no return for Harps last weekend but there were still some positive signs and Westcombe Park surely now look like hot favourites to rise into National 2 with their gap at the top of the table increasing to 8 points.

The 2nd XV continued their fine start to the season with a 24-10 win over Hertford 3s a scoreline which included a fine example of that endangered species ‘the drop goal’ slotted by Tom Stagg. Leaving them at the head of the table with 4 wins from 4 matches. Ampthill Jets await this weekend in a game that has been reversed to take place at Redbourn Lane, Ampthill have returned 2 wins from their 3 games so far including a 76-0 win over Cheshunt a team that Harps beat 31-7 three weeks ago, so a tough test is certainly in store.

The 3s are looking to rebound after a heavy defeat to Shelford 4s last time out. They take on Welwyn 2nds at Redbourn Lane to complete a full house of home games for the first time this season. So expect the clubhouse to be a hive of activity post match!

The Women’s team travel to Epping Upper Clapton on Sunday, which is bound to be a sizable challenge with the hosts sitting 2nd in the table with 3 wins from 3. Harps will be looking to improve on their defeat to Harlow last weekend. Despite defeat the team are continually learning in NC 2 South East and the rugby on show in recent games is testament to that.
