Harpenden ran in 14 tries in a convincing victory against a young and under strength Chingford sides.
Firstly credit must go to Chingford for fulfilling the fixture. With poor availability for Saturday they offered to come to Harpenden on Friday night to ensure the fixture was played.
As the campaign steadily reaches its conclusion Harpenden have promotion within their reach. Four bonus point wins would guarantee it, other outcomes would have a multitude of permutations for Harps or close pursuers Colchester and Southend.
The game against Chingford was never really in doubt as the tries mounted up for the purple clad home side. The large Friday night crowd were treated to some excellent attacking rugby with a number of tries to savour.
In the first 40 the scores were well spread between the backs and forwards with tries from Childs, Pennell, Speirs, Preston, Goode, Tait and McClean. All that Chingford could muster was one penalty and a further failed attempt at three points.
It continued to rain tries in the second half although the forwards had to settle with making the assists on the most part as the backs were gleefully making the most of the wide open spaces that presented themselves. Further tries for McClean, Tait, Speirs and Pennell put the the score past 60. Whilst substitute Tom Randall added one of his own from the bench. The scoring was completed by with an interception try from Speirs and a further score for Goode. McClean was able to add the extras to give himself a 50% record off the tee with his 7th conversion.
A much sterner test awaits this week as Harps face Eton Manor at home, looking to avenge a 26-17 defeat in Wanstead in early December. Kick off is at 3pm
